PEER PROGRAM PRACTICE GUIDE
This manual is intended to offer direction on how to develop and implement a successful peer program in a Housing First support system for veterans moving from homelessness to home.
The inspiration for this program manual came out of a two-year project “Canadian Model for Housing and Support for Homeless Veterans” that operated between May 2012 and June 2014. A primary principle of the Evaluation Project was veterans helping veterans. Often veterans expressed a strong desire to reconnect with members or colleagues from their CAF unit or service. A peer support program with a combined response that is framed within both homelessness and military services can be a helpful approach to support veterans in their transition from homelessness to living in their home. This practice guide was created to support the development of peer support programs in locations where they may not exist and to strengthen those already in place.
